2017-18 Achievement Award 

For individuals or married couples actively engaged in farming and/or ranching, with the majority of his/her/their income coming from production agriculture.  

The 2017-18 Achievement Award acknowledges success in agricultural production and leadership achievement. Competitors are judged on the growth and financial progress of their farm or ranch, as well as their Farm Bureau and community leadership. Finalists must disclose financial information – but it will be kept highly confidential and will be seen only by the judges.

AA WINNER

In addition to the truck, the winner or winning couple will also receive:

  • An expense paid trip to the annual AFBF Young Farmer & Rancher Leadership Conference 
  • An expense paid trip to compete at the American Farm Bureau (AFBF) annual meeting

The following is required of the award winner:

  • Participation in the national competition at the American Farm Bureau (AFBF) annual meeting - This is an expense-paid trip included in the prize package

AA FINALISTS

The top three scoring written applications will be named state finalists and will host a panel of judges with an interview and tour of their farm operation.

Each finalist receives a $1,000 cash prize and a free registration to the state conference in Charleston SC  (Fri-Sat, January 27-28, 2017). 

The following is required of the finalists:

  • Attendance at the SCFB Annual Meeting in Myrtle Beach, SC on December 2, 2016 where the finalists will be announced.
  • Attendance at the Awards Program during the SCFB Annual Young Farmer and Rancher Conference January 28, 2017 Charleston, SC for the award announcement.

2017-18 Excellence in Agriculture Award - applications due October 1st 

For individuals or married couples who do not derive the majority of your income from an owned production agriculture operation. This award is great for part-time farmers or agriculturalists. 

The 2017-18 Excellence in Agriculture Award acknowledges members who are agricultural devotees, but do not earn the majority of their income from production agriculture. Competitors are evaluated on their understanding of agricultural issues, leadership experience and achievement. Participants will be judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations (i.e. civic, service and community). The SCFB Organization Division will coordinate the program at the state level.

Applications are due to the SCFB state office not later than 4:45 pm, Thursday, October 1, 2016. Please see the form for complete contest rules, judging criteria, and other requirements.

EA FINALISTS

Each will each receive $500 and one night stay at the conference in Charleston, SC (Saturday, January 28, 2017).

The following is required of the finalists:

  • To present an oral presentation using either Power Point or Prezi - date and location will be posted soon
  • Attendance the awards program at the SCFB Annual Young Farmer and Rancher Conference the evening of January 28, 2017, to receive their award.

2016 Discussion Meet - Applications due October 1st 

SCFB Members 18-35 who have an interest in and knowledge of agricultural issues – win cash, prizes, and travel

For productive thinkers, problem solvers, motivational encouragers, agricultural enthusiasts.
 
The 2016 Discussion Meet recognizes individuals for their public speaking skills, group problem-solving abilities and knowledge of current agricultural issues.  The competition is designed to simulate a committee meeting and/or the Farm Bureau policy development process where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. The SCFB Organization Division will coordinate the program at the state level.

Competitors are evaluated on their exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Successful participants are productive thinkers and assist the group in creating ways to implement the solutions discussed and highlight Farm Bureau’s involvement in those actions/steps. The South Carolina Discussion Meet will take place on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC during the SCFB 2016 Annual Meeting.

To the best of their knowledge, participants must be available to compete in the national Discussion Meet at the American Farm Bureau (AFBF) annual meeting in Phoenix, AZ (January 8-11, 2017) in the event they are deemed the SCFB winner.

Discussion Meet prizes are sponsored in part by the SC Farm Bureau Federation, Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, and STIHL Inc.

What participants will receive:

  • All participants will receive one night stay at the SC Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting in Myrtle Beach (Friday December 2, 2016)
  • All participants who do not advance to the finals will receive a $75 VISA gift card
  • The runner-up will receive a $250 VISA gift card

What the winner will receive:

  • An MS271 STIHL chainsaw and carrying case
  • A $500 VISA gift card
  • An expense paid trip to compete at the American Farm Bureau (AFBF) annual meeting in Phoenix, AZ (January 8-11, 2017)
  • Free Registration to attend the SCFB YF&R annual leadership conference in Charleston, SC (Saturday, January 28, 2017), and
