FARMERS – win a NEW GM TRUCK!

Individuals or married couples involved in production agriculture with a majority of their income subject to normal production risks - this contest is for you! Receive a prize just for entering.

The Achievement Award acknowledges success in agricultural production and leadership achievement. Competitors are judged on the growth and financial progress of their farm or ranch, as well as their Farm Bureau and community leadership. Financial information must be disclosed – but will be kept highly confidential.

Below are links to the SCFB 2014 Achievement Award applications. The short two-page preliminary form should be completed and returned to the SCFB state office as soon as possible but not later than 4:45 pm on Friday July 25, 2014. Applicants will be notified if they made it to the next round of the application process and will be asked to complete the full contest application form (see link below), which is due back to the SCFB state office not later than 4:45 pm Friday August 1, 2014.

The SCFB Promotion and Education Division will coordinate the program at the state level. Good sportsmanship is expected from all contestants.  The three state finalists are required to attend the Awards Program during the SCFB Annual Meeting on December 5, 2014 to receive their award.  If not present, the award and associated prizes will be forfeited.

Selection of the winner or winning couple is based on efforts in production agriculture and leadership achievement. The top three scoring written long-form applications will be named state finalists and will host a panel of judges with an interview and tour of their farm operation during September 2014.

Achievement Award prizes are sponsored in part by the SC Farm Bureau Federation and Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company.

  • Three state finalists are required to attend the awards program during the 2014 SCFB Annual Meeting to receive their award.  Each receive $1,000 and one night stay at Myrtle Beach (Friday December 5, 2014)

    • A choice of a new Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck
    • An expense paid trip to compete at the American Farm Bureau (AFBF) annual meeting in San Diego (Jan 8 – 13, 2015)
    • Free Registration to attend the SCFB YF&R annual leadership conference in Charleston, SC  (January 30 –31, 2015), and
    • An expense paid trip to the annual AFBF Young Farmer Engagement leadership conference in Nashville, TN (February 13 – 16, 2015)

Part-time Farmers or Agriculturalists – win a NEW ATV!

Individuals or married couples who do not have the majority of their income subject to normal production risk – this contest is for you!

The Excellence in Agriculture Award acknowledges members who are agricultural devotees, but do not earn the majority of their income from production agriculture. Competitors are evaluated on their understanding of agricultural issues, leadership experience and achievement. Participants will be judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations (i.e., civic, service and community). The SCFB Promotion and Education Division will coordinate the program at the state level.

The top three scoring written applications will be named state finalists and will be required to present an abbreviated oral presentation to the SCFB Board of Directors at noon on Tuesday October 28, 2014 and their full presentation later in the day to a panel of judges at the SCFB state office using either Power Point or Prezi. The three state finalists are required to attend the Awards Program during the SCFB Annual Meeting on December 5, 2014 to receive their award.  If not present, the award and associated prizes will be forfeited. Good sportsmanship is expected from all contestants.

SCFB Members 18-35 Who Have an Interest in and Knowledge of Agricultural Issues – win cash, prizes, and travel

Productive thinkers, problem solvers, motivational encouragers, agricultural enthusiasts – this contest is for you!
 
The Discussion Meet recognizes individuals for their public speaking skills, group problem-solving abilities and knowledge of current agricultural issues.  The competition is designed to simulate a committee meeting and/or the Farm Bureau policy development process where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. The SCFB Promotion and Education Division will coordinate the program at the state level.

Competitors are evaluated on their exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Successful participants are productive thinkers rather than emotional persuaders and assist the group in creating ways to implement the solutions discussed and highlight Farm Bureau’s involvement in those actions/steps. The South Carolina Discussion Meet will take place on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC during the SCFB 2014 Annual Meeting.
