FARMERS – win a NEW GM TRUCK!

Individuals or married couples involved in production agriculture with a majority of their income subject to normal production risks - this contest is for you!

The 2016-17 Achievement Award acknowledges success in agricultural production and leadership achievement. Competitors are judged on the growth and financial progress of their farm or ranch, as well as their Farm Bureau and community leadership. Finalists must disclose financial information – but it will be kept highly confidential and will be seen only by the judges.

Below is the link to the SCFB 2016-17 Achievement Award application. The contest application form (see link below), is due back to the SCFB state office not later than 4:45 pm, Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Please see the form for complete contest rules, judging criteria, and other requirements.

The SCFB Promotion and Education Division will coordinate the program at the state level. Good sportsmanship is expected from all contestants.  The three state finalists are required to attend the Awards Program during the SCFB Annual Young Farmer and Rancher Conference February 6, 2016 to receive their award. If not present, the award and associated prizes will be forfeited. To the best of their knowledge, contestants must be available to participate in the national competition at the American Farm Bureau (AFBF) annual meeting in Phoenix AZ  (January 8-11, 2017) in the event that they are named the SCFB winner.

Selection of the winner or winning couple is based on efforts in production agriculture and leadership achievement. The top three scoring written applications will be named state finalists and will host a panel of judges with an interview and tour of their farm operation during late October or early November 2015.

Achievement Award prizes are sponsored in part by the SC Farm Bureau Federation and Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company.

Three state finalists are required to attend the awards program during the SCFB Annual Young Farmer and Rancher Conference February 6, 2016, to receive their award.  Each receives $1,000 and one night stay at the conference in Clemson SC  (Saturday, February 5, 2016).

The winner or winning couple will receive:

  • A choice of a new Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck
  • Free Registration to attend the SCFB YF&R annual leadership conference in Clemson SC  (February 5 and 6, 2016)
  • An expense paid trip to the annual AFBF Young Farmer  leadership conference in Kansas City MO (February 12-15, 2016)
  • An expense paid trip to compete at the American Farm Bureau (AFBF) annual meeting in Phoenix AZ (January 8-11, 2017)

Part-time Farmers or Agriculturalists – win a NEW POLARIS ATV!

Individuals or married couples who do not have the majority of their income subject to normal production risk – this contest is for you!

The 2016-17 Excellence in Agriculture Award acknowledges members who are agricultural devotees, but do not earn the majority of their income from production agriculture. Competitors are evaluated on their understanding of agricultural issues, leadership experience and achievement. Participants will be judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations (i.e., civic, service and community). The SCFB Organization Division will coordinate the program at the state level.

The top three scoring written applications will be named state finalists and will be required to present an oral presentation using either Power Point or Prezi at the SCFB Annual Young Farmer and Rancher Conference luncheon February 6, 2016, in Clemson, SC. The three state finalists are also required to attend the awards program at the SCFB Annual Young Farmer and Rancher Conference the evening of February 6, 2016, to receive their award. If not present, the award and associated prizes will be forfeited. SCFB Members 18-35 Who Have an Interest in and Knowledge of Agricultural Issues – win cash, prizes, and travel

Productive thinkers, problem solvers, motivational encouragers, agricultural enthusiasts – this contest is for you!
 
The 2015 Discussion Meet recognizes individuals for their public speaking skills, group problem-solving abilities and knowledge of current agricultural issues.  The competition is designed to simulate a committee meeting and/or the Farm Bureau policy development process where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. The SCFB Organization Division will coordinate the program at the state level.

Competitors are evaluated on their exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Successful participants are productive thinkers rather than emotional persuaders and assist the group in creating ways to implement the solutions discussed and highlight Farm Bureau’s involvement in those actions/steps. The South Carolina Discussion Meet will take place on Friday, December 4, 2015, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC during the SCFB 2015 Annual Meeting.

The winner will receive:

  • An MS271 STIHL chainsaw and carrying case
  • A $500 VISA gift card
