In this episode, Farm Bureau's Voices of Agriculture host Reggie Hall talks about one of South Carolina's certified grown commodities.

In the past, we've shown you SC grown peaches, turkeys, milk and a number of delicious vegetables.  In this episode, we tackle a not so tasty commodity as those...we're talking about worms, or worm poop more specifically!

Worm compost, or vermicomposting, is the main selling point at VermiDirt Farms, in Hartsville, SC, where we talk with Paul Duchock about how to make your own worm composts.  Duchock also shares the secret of "bokashi"-composting, where you can compost right in your very own kitchen!  Gardeners of all levels will love to hear about how this is done.

We also talk to one of our younger farmers, Jim Ollis, who earned extra cash in college by selling God's wiggly critters.

 Stirfried Worm Recipe
Ingredients:
  • Fresh dug worms, any size - ALIVE
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic
  • Butter
 
How to Prepare:
Heat up your frying pan, add a tsp of butter. When pan reaches correct temp, add the live worms, stir fry and add your spices. Worms are done when they stop moving and cooked thruout.
