Achievement Award

Who?

For individuals or married couples actively engaged in farming and/or ranching, with the majority of his/her/their income coming from production agriculture.

What?

The Achievement Award acknowledges success in agricultural production and leadership achievement. Competitors are judged on the growth and financial progress of their farm or ranch, as well as their Farm Bureau and community leadership.

Win a NEW FORD PICKUP TRUCK & More!

*Winner will receive $33,750 to apply to the purchase of the Ford Pickup Truck of his/her choice.

In addition to the truck, the winner or winning couple will also receive:

  • An expense-paid trip to the annual 2018 AFBF YF&R Leadership Conference in Reno, Nevada on February 16-19, 2018.
  • A one night stay at the SCFB Annual Meeting in Myrtle Beach on November 30, 2018 to be highlighted as the 2018 winner.
  • An expense-paid trip (required) to compete at the American Farm Bureau (AFBF) annual meeting in New Orleans, LA, January 12-16, 2019.

AA FINALISTS

The top three scoring written applications will be named state finalists and will host a panel of judges with an interview and tour of their farm operation.

Each finalist receives a $1,000 cash prize and a one-night stay at the the SCFB Annual Convention in Myrtle Beach, SC (Friday, December 1, 2017) and at the SCFB YF&R Conference in Greenville, SC (Saturday, January 27, 2018).

Congratulations Davis Peeler of Milky Way Farm!


Davis has a dairy operation in Anderson County and recently served as the Chair of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee.  He is a 4th generation dairy farmer and a 3rd generation breeder of Registered Jersey TM Cattle.  Milky Way Farms markets milk directly to consumers across South Carolina, giving Davis many opportunities to interact with the public and teach them about agriculture.  Davis is the proud father of two precious children named Jasper and Eva who love the farm.  He is passionate about educating consumers about agriculture and extending a helping hand to other farmers.

Excellence in Agriculture Award

Who?

For individuals or married couples who do not derive the majority of your income from an owned production agriculture operation. This award is great for part-time farmers or agriculturalists. 

What?

The Excellence in Agriculture Award acknowledges members who are agricultural devotees, but do not earn the majority of their income from production agriculture. Competitors are evaluated on their understanding of agricultural issues, leadership experience and achievement. Participants will be judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations (i.e. civic, service and community). The SCFB Organization Division will coordinate the program at the state level.

2018 EA WINNER

 

Congratulations Zack Snipes!


Zack works for Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service in Charleston County where he serves as an area Food Crop Horticulture agent.  He assists producers, growers, and farmers with any aspect of their production including advising them on the technical aspects of producing a crop from preparing the soil to selling it to the end user.  Zack also serves as the Chair of the Charleston County Young Farmer and Rancher Committee, which he helped to start in 2016.  In his free time, Zack enjoys saltwater fishing, gigging, hunting, foraging for mushrooms, growing his own produce, cooking, and enjoying the waves and sand of the beach with his fiancée and two dogs, Lexi and Puppy.  

Discussion Meet

Who?

SCFB Members 18-35 who have an interest in and knowledge of agricultural issues.  For productive thinkers, problem solvers, motivational encouragers, agricultural enthusiasts.

What?

The Discussion Meet recognizes individuals for their public speaking skills, group problem-solving abilities and knowledge of current agricultural issues.  The competition is designed to simulate a committee meeting and/or the Farm Bureau policy development process where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. The SCFB Organization Division will coordinate the program at the state level.  

Competitors are evaluated on their exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Successful participants are productive thinkers and assist the group in creating ways to implement the solutions discussed and highlight Farm Bureau’s involvement in those actions/steps.

  • A voucher for up to $500 in STIHL merchandise provided by STIHL

All participants will receive:

2018 DM WINNER

 

Congratulations Case Chumley!


Case operates an ornamental landscape nursery in Spartanburg County as well as grows corn and hay and raises Charolaise beef cattle on his family farm.  Case currently serves as the Chair of both the Spartanburg County and the State Young Farmer and Rancher committees.  He has been married to his high-school sweetheart, Taryn, for 7 years and in his free time he enjoys traveling, attending Clemson games, hiking, kayaking, scuba diving and spending time with friends. 

 

Award applications for the 2019 Young Farmer and Rancher competitions will be released in August 2018.
