Scholarship Information

The Charleston County Farm Bureau Scholarship Award Program will award six-$1000 scholarships to individuals from Charleston County families who are pursuing a degree or certificate in agriculture, farm or food system related field of study. These scholarships are intended to support the pursuit of training relating to agriculture but are also intended for the encouragement of young people to develop the knowledge and skills to assume positions of leadership in agriculture, civic affairs and public service. 

The scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Scholastic Achievement – 30 points
  • Agricultural activities, participation and offices held in school and agricultural organizations, and community activities – 25 points
  • Student’s statement and focus on a career in agriculture or an agriculture related field – 30 points Letter(s) of recommendation – 15 points

Applications must also include a short essay about yourself, the role agriculture has played in your life, what influenced you to choose an agriculture related major and how you plan to use your degree in the future (career plans).  

Application for these scholarships must be made to the Charleston County Farm Bureau through this online form during one of the two enrollments periods:  December 15th or June 15th. Selections of 3 recipients per semester will be made and winners notified in January or July respectively. Winners will be recognized at the Charleston County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting. The scholarship will be credited to the recipient's program of choice at the beginning of the semester.

Sponsorship Request

The Charleston County Farm Bureau Board of Directors will accept requests for funding of projects and activities that are purpose driven in the following categories:

Educational Programs: Programs that help provide educational opportunities in agriculture. Examples include implementing or expanding agriculture, farming, or gardening programs and activities for youth. Maximum request is $1000.

Subsidized Memberships: This fund is for Charleston County citizens that are traditionally not involved with Farm Bureau and helps to recruit lifelong members. Youth, Young/New Farmers, Minorities, and non-traditional Farm Bureau Members will be prioritized. An applicant may only receive funding one time for one year.

Community Programs/Outreach: $1,000 This fund is a direct sponsorship designed to support community outreach programs such as but not limited to: Agricultural Field Days, Hosting the Farm Bureau AgSimulator, & entry fees for booths at local events.

Small Business Outreach: This fund is designed to assist agriculturally based small businesses and non-profits in their quest to fulfill the Farm Bureau Mission. This fund is not designed to help with cash-flow but rather to assist with specific upgrades to equipment, advertising, scaling up, signage, etc. to help agriculture-based businesses become more sustainable in Charleston County. The business owner must be a Farm Bureau Member, be in good standing, promote a positive image for all farming ventures, and must have been a member for 3 consecutive years. An award can only be accepted once in a three-year period. Maximum request is $1000.

Note all recipients must be prepared to present in person or in writing a full account of how funds were implemented.

Applications are taken through the year and are presented to board members, voted on and awarded at the January board meeting each year. Cut off for applications each year is December 31st.
